Kyoto University Foreign Students and Alumni

A blog for the foreign students and alumni of Kyoto University

About

Kyoto University is the second oldest university in Japan, ranked amongst the top 30 universities in the world. Currently the university has about 22,000 students. Among them, as of May 1, 2008, a total of 1,353 international students coming from 90 different countries are currently enrolled in the university’s undergraduate and graduate programs. Most of the foreign students come from Asia as can been in the chart below, taken from the the university’s Handbook for International Students.

Even though recently the number of international students in Kyoto University is increase it seems that at the same time the interaction among the foreign students is decreasing. We believe that there is a need to create stronger ties among the foreign students of Kyoto University. There are many approaches to address this need and social networking is most probably the best approach.

KUFOS was created to provide means of building a social network among the foreign students of Kyoto University. Building this blog is the first step. You can participate in this effort by posting your ideas, thoughts, news, stories, complaints, you name it. Please note that this effort is not affiliated with Kyoto University, it was created by our own initiative. If you like the idea and want to participate, please drop us a line:
